Two sets. No opener. Just Wilco and a Memphis summer night at Grind City Amphitheater.
The backdrop at Grind City never gets old. The city skyline and the Pyramid framed behind the stage as the sun went down. This was my second time photographing here after Alabama Shakes, and it rewards you every time. Maybe one day the city will light up some buildings at night so we can have an even better view.
Pat Sansone paused to profess his love for his second home, shouting out Memphis and WYXR. A Wilco member claiming Memphis on stage in front of Memphis. So cool!
The encore was a surprise to me even though it shouldn't have been. Jody Stephens (who I saw hanging out during the show I should have known) Big Star drummer and a Memphis music legend, walked out and joined the band. In Memphis playing Big Star! Having him play Box Full of Letters and two other songs during the encore was something special.
